Gloo

Gloo is Solo.io's family of open-source and enterprise API gateway, service mesh and developer portal products, built on Envoy Proxy and Istio and delivered as software the customer runs in their own Kubernetes clusters rather than as a hosted SaaS. Gloo Edge and Gloo Gateway provide ingress, advanced traffic management, external auth, rate limiting, WAF, GraphQL and AI/LLM traffic routing; Gloo Mesh manages multi-cluster Istio; and Gloo Portal publishes API products to internal and external consumers with teams, applications, subscriptions, API keys and OAuth credentials. Solo.io renamed its commercial line in 2026 — Gloo Gateway is now Solo Enterprise for kgateway and Gloo Mesh is now Solo Enterprise for Istio — and the upstream kgateway project is a conformant implementation of the Kubernetes Gateway API, passing 93 of 93 core and extended conformance tests against v1.6.1.

Gloo publishes 3 APIs on the APIs.io network: Gateway, Mesh, and Portal. Tagged areas include API Gateway, Cloud-Native, Developer Portal, Envoy, and Istio.

The Gloo catalog on APIs.io includes 1 event-driven AsyncAPI specification.

Gloo’s developer surface includes authentication, documentation, getting-started guide, engineering blog, changelog, support, API reference, and 36 more developer resources.

Kin Score

Kin Score Kin Score How this is scored →
scored 2026-09-14 · rubric v0.22.0
Create-or-Update Ergonomics applies to this provider. This API accepts writes, so it carries 10 points of the composite. It is scored from the published contracts themselves: whether a caller can create-or-update in one call, whether the write accepts a key the caller already holds, and whether the response says which branch ran. Without that, every write needs a search-and-branch in front of it, and the first time that check is skipped a duplicate record is created. Scored against the observed mean rather than raw — a provider at the catalog average is unchanged by this facet, not penalised by it.
Improve this rating by publishing the missing artifacts — every area above can be raised, and the full rubric is at apis.io/rating/. Every facet and dimension name above is a link: it opens that measurement's own page — what it means, the exact checks that feed it, how the whole catalog distributes on it, and the providers at the top of it. This rating is computed from github.com/api-evangelist/gloo: open an issue to ask a question, or submit a pull request to add artifacts. Submit an artifact on GitHub — free → Manage your own listing — the Influence plan, $499/mo →
