Food Info

Food Info serves harmonised nutrient data for reference foods over a versioned REST API. It merges six food-composition datasets — USDA FoodData Central, McCance & Widdowson's CoFID, ANSES Ciqual, DTU Frida, AUSNUT and Open Food Facts — into a single schema, so a caller can query nutrients across sources without reconciling each publisher's format. Endpoints cover food search, a full nutrient panel per food, a nutrient catalogue, reverse nutrient search for the richest and poorest reference foods, and recipe parsing and analysis that resolves raw ingredient lines into per-line nutrition. Authentication is an X-Api-Key header, with a free tier of 10 requests a minute and 100 a day. HTTPS only and CORS disabled, so it is built for server-to-server use. The underlying dataset carries a citable Zenodo DOI, which is unusual provenance for a commercial data API.

Food Info publishes 2 APIs on the APIs.io network: API V1 API and Recipes API API. Tagged areas include Nutrition, Food, food-composition, Nutrients, and Data.

Food Info’s developer surface includes documentation, authentication, support, code examples, and 24 more developer resources.

scored 2026-09-03 · rubric v0.18.2
Regulatory Posture applies to this provider. Its tags matched the Health regime, so Regulatory Posture carries 15 points of the composite. If this regime is wrong for your business, say so on your provider repo — the applicability map is public and we will correct it.
The six quality facets above are damped to 85 points between them, because the conditional facet above carries the other 15. That is why each facet's contribution is shown against a damped maximum: raising a quality facet moves the composite by 85% of its nominal weight, not 100%. The full arithmetic is at apis.io/rating/.
Improve this rating by publishing the missing artifacts — every area above can be raised, and the full rubric is at apis.io/rating/. Every facet and dimension name above is a link: it opens that measurement's own page — what it means, the exact checks that feed it, how the whole catalog distributes on it, and the providers at the top of it. This rating is computed from github.com/api-evangelist/food-info: open an issue to ask a question, or submit a pull request to add artifacts. Submit an artifact on GitHub — free → Manage your own listing — the Influence plan, $499/mo →
Something on this page wrong about Food Info? Report it → Free, always, and read by a human — corrections are worked from the queue daily. Agents can file the same report through the report_correction tool on the apis.io MCP.
