Nest

Nest is Google's smart home brand — thermostats, cameras, doorbells, and the Nest Hub — originally founded as Nest Labs (a Lightspeed Venture Partners portfolio company) and acquired by Google. Developers integrate with authorized Nest devices through the Google Nest Device Access program and its Smart Device Management (SDM) API, a Google Cloud REST API authorized with Google OAuth 2.0. The API lets partner apps list structures, rooms, and devices, read device traits (temperature, humidity, camera, doorbell), and execute trait commands, with asynchronous device events delivered via Google Cloud Pub/Sub. The legacy "Works with Nest" API was retired and superseded by Device Access.

Nest publishes 1 API on the APIs.io network. Tagged areas include Company, Hardware, Smart Home, IoT, and Home Automation.

The Nest catalog on APIs.io includes 1 event-driven AsyncAPI specification.

Nest’s developer surface includes documentation, API reference, getting-started guide, support, signup flow, pricing, authentication, and 20 more developer resources.

scored 2026-09-08 · rubric v0.20.0
Create-or-Update Ergonomics could not be measured. We hold no machine-readable contract for this provider to read, so there is nothing to measure a write surface against. Excluded rather than scored zero: never-measured and measured-empty are different facts. Publishing an OpenAPI is what makes this facet — and several others — scorable at all.
Improve this rating by publishing the missing artifacts — every area above can be raised, and the full rubric is at apis.io/rating/. Every facet and dimension name above is a link: it opens that measurement's own page — what it means, the exact checks that feed it, how the whole catalog distributes on it, and the providers at the top of it. This rating is computed from github.com/api-evangelist/nest: open an issue to ask a question, or submit a pull request to add artifacts.
