Isomorphic Labs
Isomorphic Labs is a London-based AI-first drug discovery company spun out of Google DeepMind in 2021 and operating as an Alphabet subsidiary. Founded and led by Sir Demis Hassabis, the company applies frontier AI — including derivatives of the Nobel-winning AlphaFold system and its proprietary Unified Drug Design Engine — to accelerate the design of small-molecule and biologic therapeutics across oncology, immunology, and other therapeutic areas. The Drug Design Engine is positioned as a target- and disease-agnostic, multi-modality platform that combines predictive and generative models with a curated proprietary life-science "Dataverse" and large-scale GPU infrastructure. Isomorphic Labs monetises through strategic pharmaceutical research collaborations — disclosed deals include Novartis (January 2024, expanded February 2025), Eli Lilly, and Johnson & Johnson (January 2026) — and through its own internal therapeutic pipeline. The company closed a $600M external Series B investment round in March 2025. Isomorphic Labs does not operate a public developer API, SDK, or open-source release of its Drug Design Engine; external researcher access to AlphaFold-family models is provided separately by Google DeepMind via the free AlphaFold Server (alphafoldserver.com) for non-commercial use, and via the open-source AlphaFold 3 inference code released by DeepMind. The Isomorphic Labs GitHub organisation hosts only a small number of forks of internal Kubernetes and configuration-management tooling.
