Open Banking & Account Data lists 13 providers. 284 providers in the catalog carry the exact Open Banking tag. Plaid, the highest scorer among those 284 at 82.7, is not on the page. This cut is ours, and it measures how we built it more than it measures the market.
How the 13 got there
Membership comes from matching free-text strings against what providers declared as use cases, such as “Open Banking”, “Account Aggregation” and “Personal Finance Apps”. The page shows 10 declared variants. Plaid’s use_cases field is empty, and so are those of most tagged providers: only 13 of the 284 have one populated. So the page reflects who happened to have that field filled in with words that match, and not who does open banking.
| Provider | On the page | Kin Score | Agent Readiness | APIs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plaid | No | 82.7 | 47.9 | 41 |
| Qonto | No | 77.0 | 58.5 | 1 |
| Dwolla | No | 73.5 | 55.3 | 19 |
| Klarna | No | 73.2 | 44.4 | 6 |
| Basiq | Yes | 72.2 | 39.5 | 10 |
| Moneyhub | No | 70.3 | 48.8 | 1 |
| Token.io | Yes | 69.5 | 47.7 | 4 |
| Barclays | Yes | 58.8 | 44.0 | 52 |
| ExchangeRate-API | Yes | 57.4 | 26.0 | 4 |
The members that are hard to defend
Four of the 13 do not carry the Open Banking tag at all. ExchangeRate-API is a currency exchange rates service, admitted because one of its use cases is “Personal Finance Apps”, and it is named among the page’s highest rated. That use case describes converting balances for travel and expense tracking, not linking a bank account. Axway is an API management vendor with an open banking offering, which is more defensible, though its record describes the tooling around open banking and not the account data itself. Temenos Transact and Ally Financial make up the four.
What the larger cohort shows
The page’s median is 54.7, with 30.5 on agents. The 284 tagged providers have a median of 37.5 and 25.5. So the small list reads about seventeen points better on the Kin Score than the wider group. That wider group is not clean either: 58 of the 284 are tagged Australia, many of them also tagged for the Consumer Data Right, and the tag is applied generously. But it contains the names a developer would expect, including Qonto, Dwolla, Klarna and Revolut (70.0). Only 9 of the 284 are on the page.
At the bottom of the current list, UBS (11.7) and Ally Financial (10.0) are split-basis records with 0.0 on agents. Those tell you what we could read from them and little else.
Takeaway
Do not use this page as a market map yet. The fix is to admit from tags and capabilities as well as use_cases, and to require more than a loosely matching phrase. Until then, start with Plaid and Token.io and read the Open Banking tag for the rest.
