Muon Space
Muon Space is a Mountain View, California-based end-to-end space systems company that designs, builds, and operates mission-optimized satellite constellations to deliver Earth Intelligence and enable real-time compute and decision-making in space. Founded in 2021 by veterans of Skybox, NASA, and SpaceX, the company's core product is Muon Halo, an integrated technology stack composed of MuSim (constellation simulation and digital twin), MuOS (IP-based software-defined network middleware connecting space, ground, and cloud), MuCore (software-configurable instrument core), Condor (modular Condor-M and Condor-XL spacecraft platforms), and MuDash (cloud-based tasking, scheduling, and operations dashboard). Muon Space's flagship public mission is FireSat, a purpose-built wildfire detection and monitoring constellation developed with the Earth Fire Alliance, Google Research, and the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation; FireSat carries a high-dynamic-range multispectral IR instrument capable of detecting 5x5 meter fires across a 1,500 km swath with a 50 m nadir ground sample distance, with revisit times targeted to twenty minutes once the full constellation is operational. The Protoflight satellite produced its first-light imagery in June 2025, with the first block of three additional satellites launching in 2026 and full operational capacity targeted for 2030. Other Muon Space missions support the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force for next-generation weather monitoring, Hydrosat for thermal geospatial intelligence in climate and agriculture, and global security applications including missile-defense architecture. Muon Space's revenue model is mission contracting, spacecraft and constellation delivery, and hosted data services; there is no public developer API, SDK, or open-source release of the Halo platform or FireSat data feed.
