Alleghany Corporation was a holding company engaged in property and casualty reinsurance and insurance through its subsidiaries, with additional investments in non-financial businesses. Alleghany's key subsidiaries included Transatlantic Holdings (TransRe), a leading global reinsurer; RSUI Group, which underwrites wholesale specialty insurance coverages; and CapSpecialty, an underwriter of specialty casualty and surety insurance. In October 2022, Berkshire Hathaway completed its $11.6 billion acquisition of Alleghany Corporation, adding $14 billion in insurance float and approximately $8.8 billion in gross premiums written. Alleghany now operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. As a holding company focused on reinsurance and insurance operations, Alleghany did not maintain a public developer API program.
