King Saud University

King Saud University (جامعة الملك سعود, KSU) is Saudi Arabia's oldest public research university, founded in Riyadh in 1957. Contrary to the 2026-06-03 review of this profile, KSU does operate public, machine-readable surfaces on its own domain — they are documented only in Arabic, which is why an English-language review missed them. Its Data Management Office publishes an institutional open-data programme at data.ksu.edu.sa: 852 dataset distribution files across seven dataset families in JSON, XML, RDF/XML, CSV and XLSX, unauthenticated, under a KSU-authored open-data licence, on a declared annual cadence, with an Arabic API guide and a 13-page reference PDF. Separately, the university runs its own identity plane at iam.ksu.edu.sa, which serves a public OpenID Connect discovery document and RFC 8414 authorization-server metadata, and whose SAML 2.0 identity provider is registered in eduGAIN through the Saudi Maeen Identity Federation. What KSU does NOT publish is a developer programme: there is no developer portal, no API reference in English, no OpenAPI, no apis.json, no llms.txt, no status page and no self-service client registration — the advertised OAuth registration endpoint answers 404. The filtered open-data query API the university still documents has been withdrawn from its own router. Everything else students and staff touch — Edugate, MyKSU, the Blackboard LMS, the library catalogue — is either a gated end-user application or a vendor platform running under a KSU hostname.

King Saud University publishes 2 APIs on the APIs.io network: KSU Open Data Distribution API and KSU Identity and Access Management (OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect / SAML 2.0). Tagged areas include Education, Higher Education, University, Public Research University, and Saudi Arabia.

The King Saud University catalog on APIs.io includes 1 JSON-LD context.

King Saud University’s developer surface includes API reference, documentation, authentication, engineering blog, support, and 17 more developer resources.

Kin Score

Kin Score Kin Score How this is scored →
scored 2026-09-08 · rubric v0.20.0
Regulatory Posture applies to this provider. Its tags matched the Education & Research regime, so Regulatory Posture carries 15 points of the composite. If this regime is wrong for your business, say so on your provider repo — the applicability map is public and we will correct it.
Create-or-Update Ergonomics applies to this provider. This API accepts writes, so it carries 10 points of the composite. It is scored from the published contracts themselves: whether a caller can create-or-update in one call, whether the write accepts a key the caller already holds, and whether the response says which branch ran. Without that, every write needs a search-and-branch in front of it, and the first time that check is skipped a duplicate record is created. Scored against the observed mean rather than raw — a provider at the catalog average is unchanged by this facet, not penalised by it.
The six quality facets above are damped to 75 points between them, because the conditional facet above carries the other 25. That is why each facet's contribution is shown against a damped maximum: raising a quality facet moves the composite by 75% of its nominal weight, not 100%. The full arithmetic is at apis.io/rating/.
Improve this rating by publishing the missing artifacts — every area above can be raised, and the full rubric is at apis.io/rating/. Every facet and dimension name above is a link: it opens that measurement's own page — what it means, the exact checks that feed it, how the whole catalog distributes on it, and the providers at the top of it. This rating is computed from github.com/api-evangelist/king-saud-university: open an issue to ask a question, or submit a pull request to add artifacts. own OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect / SAML identity plane at iam.ksu.edu.sa (discovery documents and JWKS all served anonymously).
Both were missed by the 2026-06-03 review because every piece of guidance for them is Arabic-only — data.ksu.edu.sa/en/api/guide
is a 404 while data.ksu.edu.sa/ar/api/guide is a 200. Three relationships were recorded rather than credited as contracts:
eduGAIN/Maeen federation membership, Crossref membership with prefix 10.33948, and a ROR identifier. One tenancy was recorded
and its contract deliberately not saved: lms.ksu.edu.sa is a CNAME to ksu.blackboard.com (Anthology Blackboard Learn SaaS).
Three claimed surfaces are dead and are not carried as pointers: the DSpace repository and its OAI-PMH endpoint at repository.ksu.edu.sa
(NXDOMAIN, though ROAR still lists it), the library catalogue at catalog.library.ksu.edu.sa (resolves, TCP connection
fails), and edugate.ksu.edu.sa (timed out on three consecutive attempts, having returned 200 in June). One Figshare false
positive was tested and rejected: ksu.figshare.com answers HTTP 202 with an AWS WAF challenge, but so does a control request
to a deliberately nonexistent subdomain, so it is not evidence of a KSU tenancy and none is recorded. What the university
genuinely lacks is a developer programme — no portal, no English documentation, no OpenAPI, no apis.json, no llms.txt,
no agent card, no status page, and an advertised OAuth client-registration endpoint that answers 404.'
