Best overall Cheapest entry

Both labs score as exemplars, with perfect access clarity and near-perfect developer ergonomics (96.4 each). Anthropic wins overall at 89.0 against 84.5. It leads on discoverability (82.1 against 65.0) and scores a perfect 100 on operational transparency.

OpenAI leads on agent readiness, 58.4 (agent-native) against 47.6 (agent-ready), and the artifact matrix shows why. OpenAI publishes a first-party MCP server, agent skills, OAuth scopes and source code that this comparison does not find for Anthropic. Anthropic answers with an APIs.json index and an AsyncAPI description, which make it easier to discover and describe rather than to act on.

OpenAI also ships twice as many APIs (63 against 29). On cost, the response names Anthropic as the cheapest published entry, a $17 subscription tier. OpenAI’s usage pricing did not resolve to a single graded entry figure. Each lab leads on something different: Anthropic on being found and understood, OpenAI on being called by an agent.

What it costs to get in

Each provider's economics as the tool returns them. Grade A is quoted on the provider's own pricing page, B is arithmetic on quotes, C a stated prior. Entry cost is the cheapest published paid tier — a floor on getting in, not the price of the API alone. Grades: A quoted on the provider's page, B arithmetic on quotes, C a stated prior.
