Data and Analytics on APIs.io

Data & Analytics is the largest well-scored vertical in the catalog: 2,184 providers publishing 13,752 APIs — warehouses, catalogs, pipelines, and the analytics and business-intelligence layers companies expose as APIs.

Its top band is also the strangest, because almost none of it is an analytics product.

The functional bands

Band Providers
Systems of record generating the data Salesforce (294 APIs, 80.1), HubSpot (93, 77.6), Notion (6, 79.1), Ashby (52, 75.3)
Pipelines and movement Airbyte (44, 75.7)
Observability as analytics New Relic (41, 80.0), Dynatrace (34, 79.2)
BI and presentation Power BI (11, 75.8)
Financial and market data Twelve Data (6, 75.8), Plaid (31, 75.2)
Platform and management IBM (55, 74.6), Apigee (40, 74.0)
Build surfaces Bubble (6, 76.1), Xquik (3, 79.3)

Fourteen exemplars, floor of 74.0. Salesforce at 80.1 with 294 APIs is the highest composite here and the largest surface.

The warehouse is not on this list

That is the finding. A vertical named Data & Analytics, and its leaderboard is systems of record, pipelines, and observability platforms. The warehouses and lakehouses that everyone thinks of as the data layer do not appear in the top fourteen.

The reason is that a warehouse’s interface is SQL, and SQL is not an API in the sense this catalog measures. You connect over a driver, you send a query, you get rows. There is a control-plane REST API for provisioning and governance — and it is a small, secondary surface next to the thing you actually use the product for.

So the API-shaped parts of the data stack are the edges: where data is created (Salesforce, HubSpot, Ashby), where it moves (Airbyte), and where it is watched (New Relic, Dynatrace). The middle, where it is stored and queried, speaks a different protocol.

What has shifted recently

Three concrete patterns:

  1. Observability colonised analytics. New Relic at 80.0 and Dynatrace at 79.2 are two of the three highest scores in this vertical. Telemetry became a general-purpose data problem, and the vendors who solved it for infrastructure now sell it as analytics.
  2. The source system outranks the analysis tool. Salesforce at 80.1 and HubSpot at 77.6 sit above Power BI at 75.8. Owning where the data originates is worth more, in describable API surface, than owning where it is charted.
  3. Small surfaces score. Xquik at 79.3 with 3 APIs, Notion at 79.1 with 6, Twelve Data at 75.8 with 6. Three of the top ten publish fewer than ten APIs. Precision beats breadth here as decisively as anywhere in the catalog.

Where to start

Takeaway

2,184 providers, 13,752 APIs, and a leaderboard with no warehouse on it. Data & Analytics is a sector where the storage layer speaks SQL and everything API-shaped lives at the edges — creation, movement, and observation. Three of its top ten do it with fewer than ten APIs each.
