## Functions
The API supports two functions, based on the presence or absence of `PspTransactionId`:
**Tax linking:** A Reach-tracked payment exists. Your billing platform processes payment through a PSP (e.g., PayPal or Adyen) and pushes tax details to Reach. The `PspTransactionId` and `PspName` fields are required. Reach automatically correlates your submission to the PSP webhook using `PspTransactionId`. The submission and the webhook can arrive in either order—Reach persists both sides and correlates them when both have arrived.
**Tax only:** Reach does not process the payment. A fulfilment partner or logistics provider calculates tax through its own provider and pushes the details for reporting and compliance. Omit `PspTransactionId` and `PspName` fields as there is no payment to match. The submission is recorded against its `Reference`.
## Idempotency
Duplicate submissions with the same `Reference` are silently accepted—the API returns `202 Accepted` on all calls. Only the first submission is processed; subsequent duplicates are discarded.
## Reversals and refunds
A reversal is indicated by the presence of a parent identifier:
- **Tax linking:** set `ParentPspTransactionId` to the original `PspTransactionId`, or `ParentReference` to the original `Reference`.
- **Tax only:** set `ParentReference` to the original `Reference`.
All monetary amounts (`Amount`, `TaxAmount`, `TaxableAmount`, `NonTaxableAmount`) **must be negative** for reversal submissions.
## Authentication
All requests require:
1. HTTP Basic Auth credentials issued by Reach during onboarding.
2. The `Reach-Merchant-Id` header set to the merchant UUID Reach issues you.
Requests missing either credential are rejected with `401 Unauthorized` before the body is processed.
## Rate limiting
Keep submissions under 10 requests per second per integrator account. Sustained traffic above that ceiling may be throttled. If you anticipate higher volume, contact Reach during onboarding. Requests that exceed the limit receive `429 Too Many Requests`; back off and retry with exponential delay.'
