The top score in Weather & Geospatial belongs to a Spanish company registry

Weather & Geospatial lists 737 providers on its live page, and its highest Kin Score goes to OpenMercantil at 76.4. OpenMercantil is a public-data API for Spanish company intelligence. The tag that fits is Geocoding, one of 35 on its record. The API deserves its score, but it does not belong at the top of this vertical. Our tag-based membership put it there, and the fix is ours.

Across 736 scored members the median is 15.2 on the Kin Score and 3.1 on Agent Readiness. There are 12 exemplars and 39 strong, against 150 emerging and 310 minimal. 386 are human-only.

Depth by function

Tag cuts overlap. The table names companies whose records put them squarely in the function.

Function Tagged Median Kin Provider Kin Agent
Maps and location 575 17.3 Esri 74.1 43.6
Maps and location     HERE 72.2 55.1
Location SaaS     Amazon Location Service 67.4 31.6
Spatial analytics     Wherobots 65.3 27.9
Weather 130 19.9 Smarter Weather 66.8 53.6
Weather     Met Office 62.9 29.8
Earth observation 119 16.0 Umbra 60.5 45.6
Earth observation     emem 58.6 52.3

Three patterns

The weather tag finds aggregators first. The top of the Weather tag is HERE, then Cracked (a tool router for agents) and Dynamic Feed (a live-data layer). Weather is a line item for them, and APIFreaks and APIVerve also rank in its top eight. Smarter Weather, the highest provider we would call a weather company from its record, comes fourth. If you want a forecast API, also look at OpenWeatherMap (61.3), Tomorrow.io (57.6) and Atmospore (57.0).

A single spatial tag is enough to rank. RoxyAPI, a spiritual intelligence API covering Western astrology and more, ranks eighth through the tag Location. SPOTIO is field sales software, tagged Geospatial for territory mapping. SewerAI builds software for underground infrastructure, tagged GIS. The sewer and sales cases are fair uses of location data. Together they crowd the view for anyone who came for mapping.

Earth observation has the data and the thinnest contracts. Its median of 16.0 is the lowest of the three cuts, and its median agent score is 3.1. A few break out on agents: emem at 52.3 sits close to its Kin Score, and Umbra reaches 45.6. BlackSky sits at 42.3 and 37.4. The tag Public APIs tells a similar story from another angle, with 107 members and a median of 5.2.

Cleanup we owe

Skyboximaging and Terra Bella (fka Skybox Imaging) are two records of what their own names say is one company, both tagged Defunct and both scoring 0.0. The API numbers disagree too: the page says 4,072, members list 4,096 API entries, and their api_count fields sum to 1,304.

Where to start

Use Esri or HERE for maps, Smarter Weather or the Met Office for weather, Wherobots for spatial analytics, and Umbra or emem for imagery work built around agents.

Takeaway

This vertical has real depth, and its overall rank does not surface it. Filter by function at apis.io/industries/weather-geospatial/.
