Climate & Sustainability has 1,276 providers, and Postman ranks first because of one tag

The Climate & Sustainability industry page now lists 1,276 providers in its member rows. In June we wrote about the same vertical at 72 providers. The vertical did not grow seventeen-fold in four months. The page now computes membership from tags instead of a fixed list, and the first row it ranks is Postman at 78.0, exemplar.

How Postman got in

Postman’s tags start Environment, Flow, Specification, Workspace. “Environment” is a Postman feature, a set of variables. The tag matcher reads it as the natural environment. The same word brings in Prime Intellect at row 24, whose “Environment” means reinforcement-learning environments. OneTrust at row 2, 71.7, gets in through a real ESG tag on a privacy and GRC platform, and Depop at row 11 gets in through Sustainability on a fashion resale marketplace. Those two are defensible. Postman is not.

Of the three exemplars on the page, only Scope3 at 66.8 is a climate company: it measures greenhouse-gas emissions in advertising. The band split across all 1,276 rows is 3 exemplar, 17 strong, 80 developing, 104 thin, 320 emerging, 750 minimal and 2 unscored, so 59% of the vertical is minimal.

The climate core, scored

These are the rows that belong, with each provider’s own record (scored 2026-10-17):

Band What it does Providers (composite)
Emissions measurement Carbon data and factors Scope3 66.8, Climatiq 44.2
Home and grid energy Solar, utilities, demand data Enphase 64.4, UK Power Networks 62.3, Eliq 61.1
Government environmental data Facilities, weather, energy EPA 57.0, NOAA 40.9, DOE 38.6
Weather and climate risk Forecasts, flood and heat risk Tomorrow.io 56.3, First Street 55.0, OpenWeather 54.1
Carbon signals and credits Grid intensity, offsets Cloverly 40.7, WattTime 33.1, Electricity Maps 29.4

What changed since June

  1. The energy companies came in. Enphase, Eliq, UK Power Networks, Con Edison and Origin Energy now sit in the top twenty. In June the vertical looked like government data plus carbon startups. Now home energy and grid data are the best-scored climate APIs on the page.
  2. The carbon-signal layer is still thin. WattTime at 33.1 and Electricity Maps at 29.4, the two grid-intensity feeds we called infrastructure in June, are both in the thin band. Electricity Maps sits at row 176.
  3. The government backbone is middling. EPA is strong at 57.0, but NOAA is developing at 40.9 and DOE thin at 38.6. Public climate data is still mostly reached through documentation rather than contracts.

Takeaway

The defect is ours. Tag membership needs a negative list for words like “Environment” that mean something else in software, or it needs to weight a provider’s description against its tags. Until then, read the page from the climate core outward, not from the top row. For the vertical itself, the providers that would move it most are WattTime and Electricity Maps. Both are agent infrastructure for carbon-aware compute, and both are still thin.
