Sideko Vocabulary is a controlled vocabulary published by Sideko on the APIs.io network, defining 12 terms.

Defined terms include API Project, API Version, SDK Generation, MCP Generation, and Mock Server.

12 terms carry alternate labels, so a consumer can resolve the synonyms Sideko accepts to the canonical term.

A controlled vocabulary pins the words an API’s schemas, parameters and documentation use to one agreed definition each — the shared language a human or an agent needs to read the API the same way its authors do.

Terms

API Project
A container in the Sideko platform that holds one or more versioned OpenAPI specifications and organizes the generated tooling (SDKs, MCPs, docs, mock servers) produced from those specifications.
API definitionAPI specification project
API Version
A specific revision of an OpenAPI specification uploaded to an API project. Each version corresponds to a distinct OpenAPI 3.0 or 3.1 document and may have SDKs, MCP servers, documentation, and mock servers generated from it independently. Versions support semantic versioning and version bumps (auto/patch/minor/major/rc-*/release).
spec versionAPI revision
SDK Generation
An asynchronous job that transforms an OpenAPI specification into an idiomatic, deterministically generated client SDK for a target programming language. Sideko supports six languages — Python, TypeScript, Java, Go, C#, and Rust — and can optionally bundle GitHub Actions for testing and publishing the SDK.
code generationclient generation
MCP Generation
An asynchronous job that produces a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server from an OpenAPI specification, exposing one MCP tool per API operation so AI agents (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Copilot) can call the API through structured MCP tools. Supports stdio, HTTP, and SSE transports.
MCP server generationModel Context Protocol server
Mock Server
A deployed server instance that simulates the behavior of a real API by generating synthetic responses based on an OpenAPI specification's schemas and examples. Used for development and testing without a live backend.

Documentation Site
A hosted web portal automatically generated from an OpenAPI specification that provides interactive API reference documentation, authentication guides, code examples, on-brand theming, custom domains, and an Automatic MCP surface for AI integrations.

Hybrid Codegen
Sideko's positioning for combining a deterministic OpenAPI-driven code generator with guided AI customization, so SDKs are reliable by default and workflows can be tailored in plain English without losing regeneratability.

LLM Coding Assistant Rules
Per-SDK rule files that ship alongside the generated SDK so an LLM coding assistant — Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini, or GitHub Copilot — can edit and extend the SDK safely without breaking regeneration.
AI editor rulesagent rules
OpenAPI Linting
Sideko's spec-readiness check that runs against an OpenAPI document before SDK, MCP, mock, or documentation generation. Errors block generation by default and can be optionally overridden with `--allow-lint-errors`.
spec validationlinting
Service Account
A non-human Sideko identity, scoped per API/SDK/Docs surface, used to authenticate the CLI or REST API from CI/CD pipelines via the `SIDEKO_API_KEY` environment variable.
CI credentialautomation account
Slug
A URL-safe, kebab-case identifier derived from the project name used in human-readable URLs and API paths to reference a specific API project.
url-safe namehuman-readable ID
API Key
A secret credential used to authenticate requests to the Sideko platform API. Passed via the x-sideko-key HTTP header. Keys are shown in full only at creation time and thereafter displayed in masked form. The CLI stores keys in the OS-native secure store (macOS Keychain, Linux keyutils, Windows Credential Manager).
