Cloverly Vocabulary is a controlled vocabulary published by Cloverly on the APIs.io network, defining 18 terms.
Defined terms include Carbon Offset, CO2-equivalent (CO2e), Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM), Estimate, and Purchase.
A controlled vocabulary pins the words an API’s schemas, parameters and documentation use to one agreed definition each — the shared language a human or an agent needs to read the API the same way its authors do.
Terms
Carbon Offset
A tradable certificate representing the reduction or removal of one metric tonne of CO2-equivalent (CO2e) emissions.
CO2-equivalent (CO2e)
A standard unit for measuring the warming impact of different greenhouse gases, normalised to carbon dioxide.
Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM)
The non-regulated marketplace where organisations and individuals purchase carbon credits to offset emissions on a voluntary basis.
Estimate
A Cloverly resource quoting the price and matched offset source for a hypothetical activity without retiring credits.
Purchase
A Cloverly resource recording the immediate retirement of a carbon credit against a verified project source.
Offset Source
An individual carbon project (e.g. Rimba Raya REDD+) whose credits Cloverly can retire on behalf of API callers.
Retirement
The registry-level act of permanently removing a credit from circulation so it cannot be double-counted.
Serial Number
The unique identifier issued by the carbon registry for a retired credit; the auditable unit-of-evidence for ESG disclosure.
Registry
The standards body that issues and tracks carbon credits — Verra (VCS), Gold Standard, ACR, Climate Action Reserve (CAR), Puro.earth.
Vintage
The year in which the underlying emissions reduction or removal occurred.
Reforestation
Project type that captures carbon via tree planting on previously deforested land.
Biochar
Engineered-removal project type that pyrolises biomass into stable carbon for soil application.
Direct Air Capture (DAC)
Engineered-removal technology that pulls CO2 directly from the atmosphere for permanent storage.
REDD+
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation — a UNFCCC framework for forest-carbon credits.
Catalyst
Cloverly's commercial software platform for carbon project developers — inventory, pricing, content, payments, omnichannel distribution.
Climate Impact X (CIX)
Singapore-based carbon exchange that acquired Cloverly in 2024 and now operates Cloverly as its developer-platform arm.
Scope 1/2/3
GHG Protocol emissions classifications — direct (1), purchased energy (2), and value-chain (3) emissions.
FOCUS
FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification — the data spec Cloverly's purchase records align with for cost reporting.
