EMV Contact Chip

EMV Contact Chip is the original EMV specification: the chip in a payment card that is inserted into a terminal, validates the card’s authenticity, and generates a one-time cryptogram for every transaction to defeat counterfeit, lost and stolen card fraud. Defined in the EMV Integrated Circuit Card Specifications for Payment Systems, it builds on ISO/IEC 7816 and is certified through EMVCo’s three levels of testing.
