summary: Associate tags with an entity
description: 'Associates one or more unified tags (by their tag key-value IDs) with an entity such as an

asset, policy, rule, ruleset, UDF, or labeler.

This is part of the unified Tag Associations API that replaces the legacy asset/rule tag

endpoints. Associations created through this endpoint are recorded with source `MANUAL`.

**Authorization**: requires the `TAGS_CREATE` feature permission, plus the view permission for

        the target `entityType` — e.g. `POLICY` additionally requires `POLICY_GROUP_VIEW` and

        (resource-scoped) `POLICY_VIEW`; `ASSET` additionally requires `ASSET_VIEW`.

        ### Request body

        `AssociateTagsRequest`:

        - `entityId` (number): ID of the entity to tag.

        - `entityType` (string): one of `ASSET`, `POLICY`, `BULK_POLICY_RULE`, `BULK_POLICY_RULESET`,

        `POLICY_RULE_ITEM`, `RECONCILIATION_COLUMN_MAPPING`, `USER_DEFINED_FUNCTION`, `LABELER`.

        - `keyValueIds` (array of number): the tag key-value IDs to associate.

        ### Response

        `AssociateTagsResponse`:

        - `created` (array): the tags that were successfully associated (`TagDetail`).

        - `errors` (array): key-value IDs that could not be associated, each with a `code` and `message`.'
