The network now indexes 27 countries at apis.io/countries/, sitting alongside the 17 broader regions. Regions answer “who serves Latin America”; countries answer “who is actually in Brazil.”

Read the ratio, not the count
The provider count is the less interesting column. APIs-per-provider is where the country view earns its place.
- United Kingdom: 286 providers, 1,174 APIs — 4.1 per provider
- Australia: 165 providers, 828 APIs — 5.0 per provider
- Netherlands: 30 providers, 333 APIs — 11.1 per provider
- Switzerland: 17 providers, 124 APIs — 7.3 per provider
- India: 303 providers, 401 APIs — 1.3 per provider
- China: 297 providers, 354 APIs — 1.2 per provider
India and China lead on provider count and trail badly on depth. The UK and Australia have roughly half as many companies publishing three to four times as many APIs each.
The explanation is regulatory. The UK’s Open Banking mandate and Australia’s Consumer Data Right forced incumbent institutions to publish comprehensive, standardized API surfaces. That is not a handful of endpoints — it is an entire prescribed suite per institution. Both countries show the signature: moderate provider counts, very high API counts.
The Netherlands at 11.1 APIs per provider is the sharpest ratio in the set — a small number of companies, each publishing deeply.
Country versus region
The two views answer different questions and the country view is the one that resolves ambiguity. Latin America as a region shows 383 providers and 1,109 APIs; the country view separates Brazil (124 / 504) from Mexico (111 / 297) — two markets with different regulatory regimes, different payment rails, and different fintech maturity that a regional average blurs together.
If you are choosing a payment processor for Mexico specifically, the regional number is the wrong number.
Takeaway
27 countries, and the ratio column tells the story the provider count hides: mandate-driven markets like the UK and Australia produce far deeper API surfaces per company than volume markets like India and China. Regulation, not company count, predicts depth.
