The institution's central programmable surface, operated by KU Leuven ICTS on its own host and its own address space. dataservice.kuleuven.be fronts eight public OpenSearch index families — employee (wie-is-wie staff directory), cv (academic CVs, carrying ORCID iDs), organigram (organisational chart), pg/pg<year> (programme guide), onderzoeksproject, onderzoeksteams and onderzoeksinfrastructuur (research database), and jobsite (vacancies) — each published in a Dutch and an English index. Every index answered an unauthenticated GET /_search with HTTP 200 and real records on 2026-08-19: 2,264 organisational units, 5,026 programmes for 2025 and 2,543 for 2026, 740 research teams, 379 research infrastructure records, 132 open vacancies, and directory and project indices capped at the 10,000-hit tracking limit. No API key, no registration and no rate limit was observed; use is governed by the KU Leuven Data Service terms of use. The OpenAPI registered here was derived from KU Leuven's own documentation pages and verified against live responses — KU Leuven publishes no machine-readable description of this surface itself. Consumer caveats: there is no version anywhere in the path, header or media type; an unpublished index name returns an HTML 503 from the front proxy rather than a 404, so a typo is indistinguishable from an outage; the documentation is Dutch-first even for the English indices; and the directory, CV and organigram indices publish staff names, work addresses and work telephone numbers openly, which is deliberate who-is-who publication but is personal data a consumer takes on obligations for.
