FAU operates a Matrix homeserver — Synapse 1.159.0 at matrix.fau.de — with a hosted Element web client at chat.fau.de. It is properly delegated: both https://fau.de/.well-known/matrix/client and https://www.fau.de/.well-known/matrix/server return the standard delegation documents pointing at matrix.fau.de, so any conformant Matrix client can discover the service from the university's apex domain. Verified live on 2026-08-30: /_matrix/client/versions advertises r0.0.1 through v1.12, /_matrix/federation/v1/version identifies Synapse 1.159.0, and /_matrix/client/v3/login lists m.login.sso with a single identity provider named "FAU IdM" (Keycloak/OIDC) alongside m.login.token. This is an open standard implemented on the institution's own infrastructure and federated into the wider Matrix network — the most genuinely programmable, and least catalogued, surface FAU runs.
